Eyemouth is a great base for walking or cycling. Located on several coastal and inland paths and trails, there are many resources available to help you plan your days. There something for all levels from a serious hike to a relaxed saunter around ancient castles and churches. The views are always picturesque and often stunning, and being a national nature reserve the area is a haven for all kinds of seabirds and wildlife.

Edinburgh is Scotland's compact, hilly capital and is only an hour away from Eyemouth by train or road. It has a medieval Old Town and elegant Georgian New Town with gardens and neoclassical buildings. Looming over the city is Edinburgh Castle, home to Scotland’s crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny.

PAXTON HOUSE
Overlooking the beautiful River Tweed, Paxton House lies at the heart of 80 acres of riverside, woodland, parkland and gardens. Paxton House was built between 1758 and 1767, to the design of John and James Adam. Visitors can enjoy a variety of walks and trails through the gardens and grounds or take a boat trip which goes under the historic Chain Bridge.

GUNSGREEN HOUSE
John Nisbet was a ‘merchant’ who was not keen on paying the hefty tax on tea, so he smuggled tea in via the Baltic Sea and then found ways to hide it along the coast near Eyemouth, and in this magnificent house which he had specially built! In the house there are secret doors, hidden cellars, hiding holes and even a multi-floor tea shute for his contraband.
